Penn's Landing
(A great stop in Philadelphia)

Penn's Landing is Philadelphia's answer to the inner Harbor. It is a lovely area of Philadelphia but it has not lived up to the various promises by different politicians for shopping malls, lots of entertainment, etc. However, there is plenty to do and it is a good place to stay for transient boating visiting Philadelphia. The well guarded marina is located behind the seawall pictured above, and there seems to be dock space available (there are also a couple of private marinas just north of Penn's Landing where transient slips are also available). The Penn's Landing Marina does not seem to have a restroom or showers' available. The Maritime Museum is available, as well as the Hyatt Hotel, several very good restaurants are available within walking distance. Of course, all of Philadelphia is only a taxi ride away, so there is a great deal of entertainment and supplies that that makes available. Penn's Landing would be a good place to stop when in need of supplies, and walking in the neighborhood of Society Hill has generally been very safe. The independence Seaport Museum is a great place to visit, and the Olympia (Sister ship to the Maine sunk in Manila Bay) and a WWII submarine is available for a tour. Across the river is the Aquarium of New Jersey and the Battleship New Jersey (BB62) which is a short ferry ride away. Sometimes the Philadelphia Tall Ship Gazela is tied up at Penn's Landing and the Moshulu Tall ship is available for Dinner.
