Camden - Wiggins Park Marina

It used to be a standard South Jersey Joke that second prize was two weeks in Camden and first prize was one week in Camden, but for the boater NJ Wiggins Park in Camden (http://www.co.camden.nj.us/entertain/marina.html ) offers a great place to stay on the Delaware River. The round marina offers a deep water (about 12') place to stay on Camden's new waterfront that is very secure, with a locked to prevent the casual visitors in the Marina. There is power and water at the slips, and the docks are in pretty good repair (some of the aluminum docks don't have proper padding and you can get nasty scrapes on the hull). The round shape of the marina makes it fairly calm in the marina from the waves of the Delaware River, although it also catches a lot of drifting trash.

When we last stayed at Wiggins Marina, there was a lot to do. We walked to a River Sharks baseball game at Campbell Field, on another day we toured the Battleship New Jersey, and we went to the NJ Aquarium. The Tweeter center did not have anything going at the time, but that was another place to go (and the bathrooms near the  Marina were left open, which allowed us to use the facilities there. There is an open area on the River which was idea for a cookout, and we had friends visit us by car for the cookout, and then they stayed and watched the 4th of July fireworks (best seats any ware are at Wiggins Marina). The River Ferry also goes to Philadelphia's Penn's Landing for easy walks to some of the fine eating establishments there. The NJ Tall ship was also giving rides out of Wiggins Marina one time when we were there. No one of the fancier marinas, as there are no pool, tennis courts, etc. but there is lots to do, and if visiting the Delaware River, I suggest checking if there is space at Wiggins Marina ((856) 541-7222 (April - October))
