Benefits The Special Olympics of Pennsylvania

Saturday, January 28th, Neshaminy State Park, thousands gather to observe The Annual Polar Bear Plunge, hundreds gather to take The Plunge, the stage is all set, everything is in line, except, Mother Nature again throws us a curve. ??? 50 plus degrees outside ??? It was like a fall day when you are preparing to take your boat out of the water. In years past, temperatures were in the low teens, Wind Chill Factors were well below ZERO, people huddled around heaters, crews dug trenches in the snow / ice to make a path into the water and we even dug out bunkers to place tents in.That is how we have come to know the The Polar Bear Plunge. This was no Polar Bear weather, it was more like a Koala Bear Party as Saturday was a Bee-You-Tee-Full Sunny day.It made for a great day for everyone to join together, raise funds for a good cause, and be a part of a huge tailgate party.

Riverwinds YC & Westville PBA arrived in their usual bus, filled with anxious plungers in costumes and dressed for Mardi-Gras.DRYL Queen Kaity took the plunge for the second year in a row and had the company of 2 Princesses ( Miss BOC and Miss RWYC ).Wissinominy YC had a box-truck / mobile juice bar and made sure everyone had their required daily dose of Vitimin C, and Neshaminy Harbor YC arrived early to pop up the tents / changing area complete with coffee, tea, hot cocoa and Krispy Kreme Donuts!

Other clubs that showed up were PYC, WEBC, RYC, QCYC, RDYC, FSA, Bord YC, YAC and BOC.TEAM DRYL donation totals have yet to be added up, we should know later this week, what we do know, we had over 30 Plungers and over a dozen clubs showed up in support of the S.O.P. and to share another day with friends from up and down our river. To make the day even nicer, as always, PYC opened their doors and made sure everyone had enough to eat and drink, and as always, they did this at no cost to anyone who came thru their doors.Another thing that PYC does each year is donate any money collected and all bar tips that afternoon to the Special Olympics of Penna. They are a very generous and kind group of people. What a day!Nothing is better than getting together with friends and other good people, having a good time and raising money for a good cause.

I would like to PYC for all their efforts, WYC for their Vitamin C drinks, and I cannot give enough thanks to NHYC members Steve & Mary Czerniak, Tony Williams, Ed Strange and Jeff Sweeny for arriving early to set everything up, grabbing us a spot and supplying us with heat and generators.Cannot forget to mention that PYCs Mike O'Malley again raised the most funds for TEAM DRYL.And lastly, a big thank you to Candyce Holmstrup for taking pictures and sharing her love of with photography with us.

Please enjoy the pictures below taken by yours truly and click here to view more pictures taken by DRYL Photographer Candyce Holmstrup. - Juice
