NHYC Outreach
To Police Athletic League Kids
Tacony PAL Center Director Officer Schnieder
On October 9th the
Annual NHYC Outreach To PAL Kids was held.
This year members of NHYC met
the kids on their ‘home court’ at the Tacony Pal Center which is at St. Bernard’s
Church in Philly.
NHYC Members met about 20
kids at 11:00 and the kids were spoken to by USCGA Officer Jim Brennan about the
USCGA and water safety.
After Mr. Brennan ( also a
member of Riverside YC ) was done his presentation and Q&A the kids were handed
a handout with questions regarding info / history on the Delaware River.
They gathered around a chart
of the river and were told about tides, waterways that feed the river, and
waterways that the river feeds. They were
shown important / historic locations on the river. Afterwards the questions on the hand outs
were discussed and when they were finished with the hand outs they were told to
take those questions / answers home to share with their family / friends and
school mates.
This was all good – but to
the kids, the best part was having lunch.
The kids were treated to pizza, soft drinks, cup cakes, candy and a gift
shoulder bag with Phillies or Eagles logos.
After lunch the kids were
loaded into the PAL van and NHYC members got into their cars and everyone was off
to The Camden Aquarium where the kids got to view all the great exhibits as
well as watch (2) 4-D movies which both were seat shaking and wet experiences. After they were done enjoying the Aquarium
they were returned to the PAL Center where they are all presented a photo to remember
the day. Mary & I enjoy many, many, DRYL
Club events that we attend during the entire year, all of which are fantastic,
but this event, by far is our favorite event of the year. To see the happiness and smiles on these kids
faces is something that just gives you a wonderful feeling.
Below are pictures from the day
we spent with the kids ……
