2010 BUD KOCH POKER
RUN INFO
Mother
Nature Tried – But She Could Not Stop The True Boaters In Search Of Fun &
Good Times !!!
Close to
200 people came out to partake in one of the BEST EVENTS on our River on July
10th . It marked the 8th
Annual DRYL Bud Koch Poker Run!!
Doc Harry,
his lovely wife Bonnie and their crew were cooking up a storm inside the
Bristol YC while Mama Nature was trying to cook up a storm of her own. However, the nod for best storm has to go to
BYC as their breakfast buffet was yet another delicious meal for the 103
players of the poker run who started at Bristol YC and let’s not forget the 100
or members of Bristol YC who showed up as well to sample Bonnie’s breakfast. While Bristol was preparing breakfast, the
Farragut crew was working hard preparing for the masses to return for the
picnic and announcement of the winners at their club.
This year we
had close to 200 show up to play the Poker Game on the move – I must thank
those that came out and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves – I know of 6 people
who had a great time – THE WINNERS !
We had 103 players start at Bristol YC, 61 started at Farragut SA and 23 players started at West End BC. The southern river boaters had the big winner this year and I am sure the word will spread rapidly about the good time we have each year and next year we will have a larger turn out from our friends from the south end of the river.
I have to thank my very supportive wife Mary who worked hard at Farragut SA with Stella Erickson, Jane Hunsberger registering and dealing cards for us. They had the help of FSA Princess – Brittany at the tee shirt table. Everyone got a shirt this year – many got 2.
I also need
to mention and thank Farragut SA for another great job for us this year. Not only did they put out a nice pre-race
pick me up out for those starting at their club but they also docked the many
boats that came out to enjoy a sunny hot day with us and then prepared, cooked
and fed over 200 hungry and thirsty players.
Also, thanks must go out to FSA Harbor Master Morales and his crew who
made sure everyone who showed up at FSA had a place to put their boat.
I cannot
forget to give thanks to the clubs who were stops – WEBC, DRYC, QCYC, WYC, BOC,
HLYC, RYC and NPBC who got on board this
year for the first time … your
hospitality to the players is what I think makes this event what it is and
makes our League like NO OTHER BOATING OPRGANIZATION. These clubs put out food, snacks, drinks and
have guys who deal cards, moved boats at their docks, placed boats on moorings,
and more importantly, they spread camaraderie and I am sure many good
friendships started at some of these clubs this past week-end.
Lastly, let me thank my cohort in this great event – Mr. Fred Saunders of WEBC who is the Regatta Chairperson for the League.

I hope all those that came out enjoyed the day – the food – the drink – the friendships – the game and the camaraderie!!! Thanks for coming out and Spread The Word !! - Juice
