MINUTES - D.R.Y.L. Meeting hosted by Farragut SA

December 2, 2008

 

OPENING: Meeting called to order @ 8:04pm. President Paul Jusino introduced Bill Garwood who wanted to mention the upcoming anniversary of Pearl Harbor and wanted everyone to take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of those who serve our country. Juice introduced and thanked President Joe Campbell who thanked everyone for coming and wished everyone happy holidays. Joe mentioned the purchase of a travel lift by FSA, which should help move the club into the 20th century. Juice also thanked Ron Blackeby for the musical entertainment through dinner.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: All present except 3rd Vice President.

ROLL CALL OF COMMITTEE HEADS/ORGANIZATIONS: All present except NJ Legislation, Regatta, Picnic and Safe Boating.

ROLL CALL OF CLUBS: 31 clubs present

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Minutes were approved as amended.

 

OFFICERS & COMMITTEE REPORTS

President: Juice welcomed Queen Siobhan and wished everyone happy holidays. Juice called upon Bill Broadwater to report on the Pennypack on the Delaware Trail Extension Project that will be part of the Delaware River Rails to Trails Greenway. Bill attended the grand opening ceremony along with many dignitaries including Mayor Michael Nutter as well as organizations and corporations involved in the project. After the ceremony, Congressman Bob Borski invited all to participate in a walk along the completed trail segment. Juice also mentioned speaking with Paul Russet who was at a past meeting to discuss the Water Trails Project on the Delaware River. Juice will follow up with Paul at a later date. Juice applied for a place on the Oil Spill Committee but was not accepted but will attend these meetings to represent the DRYL as they will be open forum meetings.

1st Vice President: John Maloney – commented on the great time he had during the summer.

2nd Vice President: Butch Gricco – looking forward to next year already.

3rd Vice President: Steve Zielinski – no report.

Secretary: Rick Patton – no report.

Audit & Budget: Bill Branchide – no report.

Banquet: Mary Jusino – February 28 at Cannstatters. 7pm – midnight. Tickets are available for $40 each. Contact Mary at 215-396-1021.

Cruise: Bob Grace – no report.

Donations – no requests.

Fleet Surgeon: Harry Borgersen – no report.


Pageant: Toni Nespola – Introduced Queen Siobhan and Princess Ashley from QCYC. Queen Siobhan will represent the DRYL at the CBYCA Ball in December. Toni gave a financial report for the 2008 pageant reporting a loss of $1,076.48. Toni mentioned that 2009 docking prices will be increased. Pageant will be August 8, 2009.

Picnic: no report – Juice stated that there will be a 2009 Von Neida picnic. Dates and location to be announced.

Public Affairs: Bill Garwood – no report.

Regatta: Fred Saunders – no report.

Safe Boating: Frank Gilbert – no report – Bill Garwood mentioned an article about a large vessel floundering off the NJ coast. A private boater helped evacuate the crew until the Coast Guard could repair the boat and get them back on their way.

Shoreline Planning: Joe Campbell – no report.

Webmaster: Paul Jusino – Site gets updated twice a month or more if necessary.

Yearbook: Paul Jusino – mentioned that old pictures from yearbooks are being loaded on the site. Take a look.

Boater Voter: Joe Campbell – no report.

CBYCA: Bob Williams – no report.

National Boating Federation (NBF): Bob Williams – next meeting April 3 & 4, 2009 at Riverside YC in Essington, PA.

NJ Legislation: John Honer – no report.

Pennsylvania Boating Association - SE (PBA): Bill Garwood – meeting was held November 19th at Delaware River YC. Captain Scott of the Coast Guard Philadelphia Division spoke at the meeting about how tax dollars are being spent. He also mentioned that the boaters are the watch keepers of the river and to report suspicious activity. He also went on to talk about LNG issues. Bill mentioned an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer on 12/3/08 about a cruise ship that was attacked by Somalian pirates.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Nominations were conducted. There were no new nominations. A vote was cast by the secretary to re-elect the current slate of officers for 2009. A motion was made and accepted.

 

NEW BUSINESS

·         $200 to Bob Williams for NFB dues

·         $42 to recording secretary for stamps

·         $17.99 to Mary Jusino for banquet expense

·         Yearbook cover was selected for 2009. Winner is Gene Constantini of Neshaminy Harbor who won $200 for the entry.

·         The January DRYL meeting will be held at Bristol YC hosted jointly by Bristol and Neshaminy Harbor.

FINANCIAL REPORTS

Checkbook opening balance $13,161.61. Mike Kovacs reported income of $142.00 while Phyllis Blackeby reported disbursements of $259.99 resulting in a checkbook closing balance of $13,043.62. A motion was made, seconded and approved to pay the bills.

 

GOOD AND WELFARE

·         New Commodore for Bordentown YC is Tim Horton.

·         Quaker City thanked all the clubs for their support for Tim Simpson. A benefit will be held in the spring.

·         Wissinoming thanked Quaker City for their help with their moorings.

·         Wissonoming will be celebrating their 100th year anniversary and will be making a yearbook. Looking for your support. Contact the club to place an ad.

·         Nominations for person of the year and club of the year will be at the January meeting. Must have 35 copies for each nomination submitted.

·         Annual Christmas party at Anchor YC on December 14

·         Happy Hour Christmas Party on December 13. Call Tim 267-688-5185

·         Happy Hour new Rear Commodore is Joe Murphy.

·         Chances for sale for cooler of cheer at Riverside YC.

·         Tickets for the 2009 DRYL banquet are now available.

·         Senior citizen dinner on December 13 at National Park

·         New Commodore for Ran-Del YC is Betty Ann Patton

·         Children’s Christmas Party at FSA on December 14

·         50/50 won by Bill Garwood - $62
