Three Opening Days Bring A Close To The Openings……

After a week- of rain and clouds it was surely very nice to attend a dry sunny event. Pennsylvania YC started their Opening Day Ceremony at 1:30 and after the visiting clubs Officers & Princesses were introduced Commodore Zielinski Opened the 2009 Boating Season. The smell of BBQ Chicken and the smoke from the grills along with the sunny blue sky made for a wonderful start to the day. Kids played in the Moon Bounce on the well manicured lawn and members and Officers mingled around the grounds. The Philadelphia Fire Boat made an appearance and danced on the water spraying water and putting on a nice little show for us. It also showed up at Wissinoming YC as it was in the area for the Quaker City YC Benefit for fallen Police hero Tim Simpson.

We then climbed into our cars – and of course The Bordentown YC Officers jumped into their boat and we headed to Wissinoming YC for their 100th Anniversary Opening Day. There was a huge turnout for their event with all kinds of fun things for the kids to do ( and BIG kids too ). The grills were filled good eats, the outside bar for drinks and the draft beer lines were moving quickly. The WYC Officers were dressed in Salt & Pepper uniforms as I was told by WYC Commodore Kaewell that he decided to take the dress uniform back to the 60’s look. I think it was a good call as they looked GREAT. The ceremony was nothing less than fitting for a club celebrating 100 years. Commodore Kaewell presented WYC George Wittlinger award for his 50th year anniversary as a member for which 39 of those years were as an Officer – and again, Vice Commodore Cefalone came thru with a ‘Present Arms’ when Mr Wittlinger was being presented his award. A very nice touch. The Chairman of the Board then presented Commodore Kaewell a Certificate Of Appreciation for his many years of service to the club. The fleet was blessed and Commodore Kaewell opened the 100th Boating Season for WYC. Mary & I could not stay or even hang around for a quick drink as we had to get to Bristol YC for our Neshaminy Harbor YC Opening.
