Von Neida Picnic

Well another DRYL Von Nieda Picnic has come and gone as quickly as this summer has gone by. Over 500 people attended the picnic at Riverside Yacht Club in Essington Pa. The masses came by boat and by car and Mother Nature kept the rains away and gave us a beautiful, dry, and sunny day. This years theme was Casino Express and the grounds were well decorated with casino decorations. The first 150 people who came through the doors with tickets were given a free DRYL coolie as well as a DRYL Poker Chip. Those who received the Poker Chip played against each other in a Black Jack Tournament and the winner was a Mrs. Jann who came with the NHYC group. For winning she was awarded her admittance ticket money back and a 2007 DRYL Von Nieda Picnic T-shirt. Other winners of the day were HLYC who not only won the Men's Tug-A-War but the Ladies Tug-A-War Club Competition. National Park Boat Club again took home the Horseshoe Championship and Yapewi AC walked through the tournament! Yapewi AC walked through the tournament brackets with ease to win the Quoits Championship !! AGAIN !! And while we are on the topic of repeats, Camden City YC again won the Volleyball Championship. The kids were kept busy and enjoyed a Castle Moonbounce, face painting, gold fish toss and other fun games. There was plenty of food and refreshments which were available through out the entire event. DJ Jerry arrived at 6:00 and the entire grounds of RYC became a dance floor for those that could dance and by those who thought they could dance :) ...... I was one of those that thought they could dance LOL For those that came by boat, they woke up to a breakfast buffet feast at RYC and HLYC . All in all it was a wonderful picnic and great week-end.

I want to thank Picnic Committee Head Joey Gricco, his Mom Barb, Dad Butch and sister Barbara, and the entire picnic committee who worked Friday, and ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday morning. From preparing the salads, cooking the chicken, setting up, keeping the food and refreshments constantly available during the picnic, clean-up Saturday night and Sunday morning and the break-down. This is a HUGE EVENT and it takes a HUGE amount of work and preparation for something like this to get pulled off without a hitch, and somehow, this group of people gets the job done.

This event has become one that everyone raves about during the picnic and after it is all done and over with. I have received emails from Commodores, members, Delegates and friends telling me how much fun they had, how their kids enjoyed the entire day and you will not believe how many asked how it was possible to throw such a large event with soo much food, refreshments, and activities for the entire group / family for only $20 ! I will tell you what I told them all ....... it is all done with smoke and mirrors. :)

Thanks also has to go out Riverside YC, Harbor Light YC and West End YC for opening their clubs for docking!

And lastly, I would like to thank everyone who came out and supported this event as you are the people that make this event what it is..... ' The Largest Picnic On The River '

Take care and I hope to see you all again real soon!
